THE BOOKWORM
A Little Steel, A Big Smile

Sometimes the smallest projects have the biggest meaning.
A neighbor asked me to make something special for his 12-year-old nephew, who loved reading and was facing surgery during a serious illness.
Instead of an ordinary nuts-and-bolts figure, I made a one-of-a-kind bookworm from stainless steel cable, steel nuts and a little imagination. Every part was individually TIG welded together by hand.
My favorite detail is the eyes. Nuts and lock-washer rings work together like gears. Turn one eye and the other spins in the opposite direction.
The boy loved his gift, and his surgery went well. That meant more to me than any paycheck.

Know a child facing illness, surgery or a difficult time? I would love to hear their story. When I am able, I will donate my fabrication time to create a personal, handcrafted metal gift that might bring them a smile.
Every request is considered individually, based on availability and circumstances.
